Outlook 2000 Setup for Windows

First, open Outlook 2000, and select the "Tools" menu and then select the "Accounts" option.

A new menu will pop up with several tabs across the top, and buttons along the right-hand side. Click on the button labeled "Add". A new menu will appear. You want to select the option that says "Mail".

The next screen which appears will allow you to pick the name that people will see when they receive mail from you. You can select anything you want here, but typically it's best to display your first and last name. This can always be changed later. Once you enter a name, press "Next".

Now you should be looking at a screen which you enter your email address into.  Once you've entered your email address, press "Next".

The next screen determines *how* your mail arrives. Select either "IMAP" or "POP3" from the pull- down menu at the top. IMAP means that you leave the mail on our server, and can view it from any computer you set email up on. POP3 means you download the messages onto your personal computer. We suggest IMAP for those people who will be traveling often and need to access their mail. POP3 is suggested for those people who know that they will not need to often access their mail from multiple locations.

Next, enter mail.dreadnought.net into both text fields. Select my server requires authentication.  Once complete, press "Next".

Now you should see the below screen. Enter *just* your username in the first field. The second field is for your email password, and should only be completed if you want your email application to remember your password (recomended). If you would rather not have the password saved, unselect the box marked "Remember Password". Once complete, press "Next".

Now you will tell Outlook how to check mail. Depending on how you are connecting, you will select different options: Connecting via DSL: "Connect using my local area network (LAN)" Connecting via Dialup: "Connect using my phone line" [this will take you through setting up your dial up connection as well.] Select what is appropriate for you, and then press "Next".

This final screen asks you to press "Finish".

This should set you up and get your mail working! Simply click the account on the Outlook menu of accounts (which typically is on the left hand side of the program), and your mail should download.
