Dreadnought Hosted Email

Dreadnought has a number of services that it can offer for Email  We can either offer hosted or forwarded Email.  With hosted Email, we are your Email server.  Your Email is received by the server and you can access it a number of ways, described later.  With forwarded Email your Email is received by the Dreadnought server and then forwarded to the mil address of your choice.  Both methods have their advantages.

Forwarded Email;

With forwarded Email you can forward your Email to any Email address that you specify.  This way your true Email address can change as often as you like, but still receive Email from your contacts without having to inform them of Email address changes.  Basically, you can change your address as often as you like and not worry about telling anyone.  You can have any address that you like at the Dreadnought.net or SacredSword.com addresses.  By forwarding your Email you also are protected from viruses.  We can even forward Email from an existing Email address to a new address.

Hosted Email;

With Hosted Email your Email is received and stored on the Dreadnought mail servers.  it can also enjoy more options.  When your Email is stored on the Dreadnought mail server it can be accessed several ways.  You can access it via POP3, IMAP4, Outlook Web Access (OWA). Several of these methods will allow you to store your Email on the server so that it will always be accessible from anywhere and via OWA.  In addition to storage on the server and different methods of access you enjoy the following benefits.  Virus protection to prevent trojan horses, viruses and wormsSpam protection to prevent unwanted Emails.  Out of the office messages for when you will be gone for extended periods of time (configurable via OWA).  POP3 downloading to retrieve Email from an ISP or other non web based mail source.  That Email can be placed in your mailbox.

Anti-Virus;

Trojan Horses are malicious programs that are disguised as an innocent program.  Often the trojan will do something like add a backdoor that a hacker can use to gain control of your machine or send Email from your machine.

Viruses are defined as any program that replicates without the operators permission.  Often these will do malicious things to your computer such as delete files or crash your system.

Worms are viruses that reproduce via Email.  They also often do malicious things to your computer, but the very act of reproducing may be enough to crash some mail servers.

Anti-Spam requires it's own page.  You can read about it here.

You can configure your anti-spam rules, if it is enabled, by clicking here.

POP3;

POP3 is what most people are used to.  POP3 allows you to download Email into Outlook or Eudora or a number of other programs and read the Email.  This is a very simple method and very easy to understand.  On the other hand it does not leave the Email on the server.  POP3 is easy to configure, you can configure it by going here.

IMAP4

Not for the faint of heart, this protocol will allow you to leave your mail on the server and read it from anywhere.  It will also allow you to look at the subjects of all of your messages and decide if you want to download them, or delete them.  This is for the experienced user and offers a lot of flexibility.  To configure IMAP4, click here.

Outlook Web Access - Web Based Email

This method offers a number of advantages and one big disadvantage.  The disadvantage is that the Email is entirely on the server, whereas POP3 downloads locally and IMAP4 makes a local cache, so the speed may be a little slow.  The advantages are a rich web based interface that is accessible from anywhere, more secure than any other method, and the Email stays on the server.  OWA can also be used to set some settings for your mail account.

Outlook Web Access is available by clicking here or going to mymail.dreadnought.net.

Out of the Office Messages

You can configure your mail account to send an Email automatically as a reply to any Email received.  This is useful if you are on vacation or unavailable via Email and want to let senders know this.  To do this, go to OWA and click on the options tab.  At the top of options is the out of office assistant.

Downloaded POP3 Email (from an existing ISP Account)

Email from your existing mail provider can be downloaded automatically on an ongoing basis and transferred to your Dreadnought account.  Among other benefits this will keep you from filling your mailbox.

Rules;

1.) Use common sense.

2.) Don't harass anyone, send spam or huge files.  If you wouldn't do it on the phone, don't do it in Email.  Act honorably.  If it is rude, don't do it.  You can figure these things our for yourself.  And if you can't and I get a reasonable complaint, I will remove the account.

3.) I don't believe I will ever have to worry about these rules.
